Joint Advisory Committee

A specially constituted committee known as a Joint Advisory Committee (JAC) was set up in 1972 to co-ordinate management of the AONB. The JAC is a strong partnership, which works with the staff at the AONB unit to keep the area outstanding for future generations. They rely on goodwill and central and local Government funding to pursue their objectives.

Membership

The JAC comprises representatives from a wide range of organizations and agencies with an interest in the Wye Valley.

Up to five non-voting members can be co-opted onto the JAC. Currently the co-opted members are representatives of the local Wildlife Trusts, the Lower Wye Valley Society, the River Wye Preservation Trust, the Central Council for Physical Recreation - Outdoor Pursuits Division and the local Tourism Associations.

Technical Officers Working Party

The JAC is supported by a Technical Officers Working Party, which comprises representatives of the four local authorities, plus the following Government agencies:

The bulletin "In Touch", summarising the topics discussed at the last meeting of the JAC is distributed to all parish and community councils in the AONB, and to other organisations with an interest in the area.
