Individuals, communities and groups in the AONB can benefit from matched funding for projects that contribute to the well-being of rural communities and preserve the valuable landscape for future generations.

Grants are available from the Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) to help projects that conserve and enhance the beauty and characteristics of the Lower Wye Valley, encourage people's appreciation and enjoyment of the area, and improve the wealth and well-being of local communities. Projects should be within the boundaries of the Wye Valley AONB, in Herefordshire, Monmouthshire or Gloucestershire, or have direct benefit to the area.

Grants may range from less than £1,000 to as much as £25,000. The scheme is open to any organisation, including community or voluntary groups, local authorities, the private sector and individuals. Projects must meet the aims of the SDF. These are to encourage people to work in partnership to create more sustainable ways of living which protect local culture, wildlife, landscape, land use and community.

An assessment panel meets quarterly to consider applications. Anyone who would like to discuss the suitability of their project should contact the Wye Valley AONB Community Links Officer, e-mail: community@wyevalleyaonb.org.uk.
