Walking the Way to Health

Walking through the Piercefield Woods near Chepstow

The Walking the Way to Health Initiative was funded by the Countryside Council for Wales, the British Heart Foundation and the lottery-funded New Opportunities Fund.

  • Forestry Commission
  • Monmouthshire County Council
  • Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty unit.

Wales’ first county-wide programme encourages people to walk their way to health. Led by trained volunteer leaders, walks in and around Chepstow, Abergavenny and Caldicot range from half a mile to two miles, with little or no gradient. They avoid obstacles such as stiles and steps.

For more information contact the scheme co-ordinator liz.Hopkins@forestry.gsi.gov.uk or see the full Programme. The project came to an end at the beginning of 2007. However, as was intended, some of the groups have continued under their own steam. Details of how to contact them will follow in the New Year.
