Lydbrook 2014

The Lydbrook Tump Fete
5 May 2014
The Lydrook Fete, which was held on Lydbrook Tump, on Bank Holiday Monday was a wonderful success.

The weather held fair for the residents and visitors who enjoyed a host of activities both on the Tump and at the Garden Café. Where is Ratty? There was no sign of him at the Fete but clowns, balloon makers, and the old attractions  of skittles and tombola kept people engaged.

One of the highlights of the event was the huge cake. Sally Lewis from Make a Cake, Coleford made the first cut. Over several hundred slices were given to the crowds whilst they enjoyed a stellar performance from Lydbrook Band.

Visitors also visited the gypsy fair at the Garden Café where Paul and his staff dressed for the occasion in period dress to reflect the theme of Lower Lydbrook's (in particular Lydbrook House and the Malthouse) connection with the Wye during the 18th and early 19th centuries. when it was a major river port for shipping goods up to Hereford and down to Chepstow.  Lydbrook's Historical Society presented an exhibition in the Malthouse.

People brought picnics and barbequed food and enjoyed the festive spirit and the good weather. If you visited Lydbrook then please  let us know in the poll below the parts of the Fete that you enjoyed the best. You can also see some of the images from Lydbrook on our Image Gallery page
