Duration: A three year project funded by the SDF for two years.
The initiative focused on conserving the Herefordshire’s native reptiles and their habitats with the aim of engaging the public’s interest and understanding of these fascinating creatures. Monmouth Film School £9,500
Organisation: Monmouth Film School
Duration: Three years
An innovative three year project, offering secondary school students the opportunity to experience and acquire new skills in the realm of creative media. The film school was run for two weeks over three consecutive summer holidays from 2008-10. Professionals from dramatic and media backgrounds mentored young people in a range of film making skills. Script writing, camera work, locations manager and wardrobe skills were among some of the new skills on offer to sample. The films including a dramatic piece set in the heart of the Wye Valley, were premiered at the Monmouth Savoy Theatre and a DVD showcasing the work was sold to the public. Ross on Wye Christmas Energy Outreach Project- £3,000
Organisation: Ross Town Council
Duration: One Year
A one year project run by Ross Town Council to raise awareness of the need to reduce carbon emissions. The project focused on the challenging Christmas period, seeking to cut emissions without detracting from seasonal celebrations. An innovative public awareness campaign was launched. This included a low carbon exhibition, which toured local communities. Demonstrating that energy saving could also be fun and engaging. The Council will reinforce the message in 2010
Staunton Health and Heritage Walks Map - £507.52
Organisation: Staunton Parish Council Working Group
Duration: One Year
Through consultation with the local community, the Parish Council established the desire to produce a local historical walking leaflet of the locality. A working group was formed to implement the project. A route was selected and thoroughly researched by the local community. The leaflet is available at Tic’s
Climate Change in Agriculture - £10,959.79
Organisation: Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group
Duration: Two Years
This project, focused on issues facing farmers practice and business when responding to climate change. In year one the (FWAG) Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group received training in carbon audit delivery and increased their knowledge and skill set. Following on from this 15 farms received carbon audits, and 30 farmers received training to increase their knowledge of farming methods to adapt to climate change and prudent use of resources. The project was extended into a second year, 2 Renewable Energy visits were organised and attended by farmers seeking to investigate the renewable sector and 7 more farms received carbon audits.
