This will be the high point in the Herefordshire Nature Trust’s 50th birthday celebrations and will include a full day of wildlife related activities, demonstrations of traditional country crafts, conservation and wildlife groups, displays, craft stalls, locally grown organic produce and play activities for children. This will be followed by an evening of ceilidh dancing and feasting on locally sourced food and drink.

This course is a brief introduction to dormice ecology, their conservation requirements, their legal protection, where to find them and what signs to look out for. You will join Jan on a walk around Croes Robert looking at habitat, woodland management and for signs of dormice.

A walk through a fascinating dense mosaic of small fields, various types of woodland, isolated cottages, quarries and old iron ore mines. The area is flanked by the breathtaking gorge of the River Wye and is rich in wildlife habitats, including several Herefordshire Wildlife Trust reserves. The walk is suitable for adults and children alike but does include some short steep gradients, uneven ground and an unprotected sheer cliff top (which can be avoided by those who wish to do so).

Walk from the picturesque Tintern Abbey to explore the area's industrial past hidden within the Angiddy Valley, including a visit to the newly conserved remains of the ancient iron works. the return leg affords wonderful views of Tintern from the ruined Church of St Mary's.

A practical introduction to the art of hedgelaying. Participants will learn how to prepare a hedge for laying and how to select the right trees for laying. There will be a brief discussion of the various styles of hedgelaying and we will be demonstrating how to use and sharpen the tools provided.

Gentle walk up Coppett Hill, investigating the Puddingstone outcrop with Old Red Sandstone below and limestone above. Learn about the development of the River Wye and the valley it has carved in this area. Supervised children and dogs are welcome. Some of the ground is muddy and uneven so walking boots are needed.
